The Department of Sociology presents:

Frances Fox Piven
Thinking About Politics and Sociology in the 21st Century
The proposed format is that Fran will speak for a few minutes on the general topic, discuss some of the priorities shaping her intellectual and political work, and then conduct an open discussion. The conversation will emphasize student concerns and interests and discussion topics raised by students.
Piven will be on campus to give a talk on Thursday, March 6 on race and voting (for more info, go to http://newracialstudies.ucsb.edu/speakers). She has offered to do a more informal colloquium in Sociology on Friday March 7.
