Faculty Spotlight

John Mohr (PhD Yale, 1992) has long been interested in the empirical study of meaning systems and has focused on using formal methods of relational (network) analysis to study discourse in institutional systems. He has been active in developing programs for broadening participation in graduate education, and he has studied how universities manage the discourse of race, class and gender in a post-affirmative action era. He also works collaboratively with colleagues in computer science on text-mining studies and was recently awarded (along with several UCSB colleagues) a 5-year NSF IGERT grant to create an interdisciplinary PhD training program in Network Science & Big Data. http://www.ia.ucsb.edu/pa/display.aspx?pkey=3153
