Lunelle Recalled

In October 2000, the Food and Drug Administration approved a monthly contraceptive injection called Lunelle for the United States. An injectable contraceptive, Lunelle contained a combination of estrogen and progestin that could be injected in a woman to inhibit ovulation and prevent pregnancy. The manufacturer of Lunelle, Pharmacia, is voluntarily recalling "Lunelle Monthly Contraceptive Injection" to due a lack of assurance of full potency and the risk of possible pregnancies. If you have been using the Lunelle injection since January 2002, Pharmacia recommends the use of an additional type of barrier method birth control before beginning a new form of hormonal contraception, as well as obtaining a pregnancy test. Pharmacia is providing free pregnancy test kits and condoms to healthcare providers that administer Lunelle injections. You can return any unused Lunelle injection to pharmacies for refunds. For further questions regarding this recall, contact Pharmacia at 1-888-691-6813.
