What should I do?

Approximately six million pregnancies occur every year in the United States, and over half of those are unintended (American Pregnancy Association, 2006). More than one million, or approximately 1 out of every 5, are terminated through abortion (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, 2006). Abortion is an option that a large portion of women consider at some point in their lives for a variety of reasons.

Much controversy exists throughout the world regarding pregnancy and abortion, and many people have very strong feelings about the topic. It is difficult to get a non-biased answer or opinion regarding abortion. Since deciding whether or not to obtain an abortion can be emotionally draining and challenging, it is a good idea to tell someone if you are pregnant and considering abortion, whether that be a parent, friend, teacher, or boyfriend. However, the decision is entirely up to you, and no one can or should make that decision for you. Deciding to have an abortion is a very personal choice and what is right for one person may not be the best decision for another. Therefore, it is important to consider all of your options in order to determine which choice will yield the best consequences.
