Sexual Orientations Overview

Sexuality has many different facets and directions which are not confined to heterosexual relationships. Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and intersex individuals are all part of an orientation not heterosexual in nature. In addition, those who are friendly to the queer community are known as allies. Sexual orientation spans a wide range of sexuality often encompassed in the term "Queer" or the acronym LGBTQIA (for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Allies.) The community is sometimes symbolized by a rainbow flag to show the diversity of experiences that are possible. Coming out, relationships, and support are some of the main concerns of the queer community. Gay rights --such as the right to marry, adopt, or serve in the armed forces-- are controversial issues that we hope to address. Feel free to explore your sexuality in the links below. This is a new section and we and trying very hard to expand it. If you have any suggestions for article topics, please send them to the SexInfo Webmaster.

Disclaimer:
The "Sexual Orientations" section of our site has recently expanded to include much more material than in previous years. As a result of this growth, naming the section has been a difficult process. SexInfo cares about what you think and feel, so if you have a suggestion to re-name this section more sensitively or tactfully, please e-mail the SexWebmaster with your suggestion. Our reason for not titling this "LGBTQIA Lifestyles" is because we know this acronym is non-translatable, and also limited to people already informed of many issues regarding sexual orientation. We hope that a wide variety of people are able to find this section of the site and feel comfortable regardless of their sexual identity.
