How Many Women Reach Orgasm/Multiple Orgasms During Sex?

Dear Sexperts,

What percentage of women regularly have orgasms with intercourse? What percentage regularly have multiple/sequential orgasms? What percentage can have an unlimited number?

Answer:

There is no exact answer to your question, because the science of sexuality is still quite young and studies give different statistics. But we can give you some helpful information. The National Health and Social Life Survey estimates that about 29 percent of women always experience orgasm during sex with a partner, as opposed to 75 percent of men (Hyde & DeLameter, 2006). It is usually harder for women to reach orgasm than it is for men, due to both biological and cultural factors.

Some women experience multiple, or sequential, orgasms during sex with a partner, as well as during masturbation. Masters and Johnson write that it is possible for women to have up to 20 orgasms in a row when masturbating (Hyde & DeLameter, 2006). It is difficult to ascertain how many women experience multiple orgasms. Kinsey and his research team wrote that 14 to 16 percent of women regularly had multiple orgasms (Darling et al., 1991). One study of more than 800 professional nurses concluded that almost 43 percent of the sample experienced multiple orgasms frequently. However, that percentage is higher than the norm, since professional nurses are more knowledgeable about the sexual response in general
